Question:
What are the recent changes in maximum withholding for 401(k) contributions?
Answer:
I spoke to Bond, Schoeneck & King, LLP to verify the changes. They indicated the maximum annual contribution increased from $10,500 in 2001 to $11,000 in 2002, and increases by $1000 a year until 2006, when the maximum contribution will be $15,000. Increases after that date will be based on cost-of-living increases according to the consumer price index. In addition, in 2002 a $1000 catch-up contribution is available to those aged 50 and over if your plan is amended to cover it.
