MACNY Legislative Memo's

The following are the Legislative Memos for 2010. Please review these vital issues carefully, all in which have become major priorities of the manufacturing community.

This legislation would establish a new civil cause of action for employees who claim they are subject to an abusive work environment, setting an unfair platform for employer/employee relations in the workplace. It would also provide unwarranted incentives for employees to fabricate or enhance everyday work issues for personal or financial gain:

S.1823-B/A.5414-B: Alleged Abusive Work Environment Bill - OPPOSE (03/03/2010)

This Bill would eliminate an employee's right to a federally supervised private ballot election when deciding whether or not to form a union. Such methods allow for susceptibility to coercion, peer pressure and bullying at the hands of Union organizers and employees who have already expressed support of union organization, creating an unfair voting process:

S.560/H.R.1409: The Employee Free Choice Act - OPPOSE (03/03/2010)

This legislation calls for a significant change and increase in the structure of hazardous waste generation fees, by 20 percent overall. The structure of the legislation will subject a number of businesses, specifically upstate manufacturers, to increase in their facility hazardous waste assessments, an unfair burden that manufacturers simply cannot bear:

S.7988/A.11308: Hazardous Waste Fees - OPPOSE (03/03/2010)

This Bill calls for the authorization of grocery stores to begin selling wine at their establishments, while easing on a number of antiquated restrictions on liquor stores. Such changes will create a level playing field and an increased opportunity for economic development and growth for a variety of New York State business sectors, including manufacturers:

S.5787/A.8632: The Wine Industry and Liquor Industry Revitalization Act - SUPPORT (03/03/2010)

This Bill creates a program that would be a significant step backward from the agreed two way bipartisan sponsored bill of the Senate and the Administration (S.7937), and will not sustain the needed economic development programs our state's business community needs in order to maintain and create those critical jobs that will help boost our economy:

A.11172: The Power Solutions Program - OPPOSE (05/26/2010)

This legislation would require the payment of prevailing wages to certain employees of a private utility corporation, resulting in $50 million added costs passed on to ratepayers, including manufacturers. With New York already paying some of the highest electricity costs in the nation, this increase will be severely damaging to the state's business climate:

S.7096/A.10257: Prevailing Wage For Service Workers - OPPOSE (06/07/2010)

This Bill will create a long term economic development power program that will enable manufacturers and businesses statewide to receive competitively priced electricity. This allocation based program will enable businesses to invest and grow, allow manufacturers to sustain and create good paying jobs and foster much needed economic growth for the State:

S.8065/Governor's Program Bill #254: Energize New York - SUPPORT (06/15/2010)

This Bill attempts to require energy distribution companies to abide by a solar purchasing mandate by contract through 2039. Such an unnecessary and high cost renewable energy program will inevitably increase New York State consumer energy costs up to $29 billion, an added cost burden manufacturers and businesses simply cannot afford:

S.7093-B/A.11004-A: Mandated Purchase of Solar "Renewable Energy Credits" - OPPOSE (06/22/2010)
