More than 80 percent of executives agree there is a talent shortage in U.S. manufacturing. MACNY is fighting the skills gap head-on through programs such as Partners for Education and Business (PEB), P-TECH, CTE, The Manufacturers Intermediary Apprenticeship Program (MIAP), registered through the State of New York. Through partnerships with area colleges and businesses, we strive to engage students early and provide a meaningful education towards a career in U.S. manufacturing. Additionally, we push for apprenticeships and keep the community abreast with the latest knowledge through newsletters.
Partners for Education & Business, Inc. (PEB) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and the K-16 arm of the Manufacturers Association of Central New York (MACNY) Workforce Development Team. We believe workforce development begins well before high school graduation, and we are committed to closing the gap between education and industry. Our team accomplishes this through engaging local employers across industry sectors in work-based learning programming for schools through facility tours, job shadows, internships, professionalism workshops and guest speakers. We also collaborate with partners to facilitate larger events and initiatives to foster an interest in the STEM career pathways in our community. During the 2021-22 school year, our team engaged over 120 businesses with almost 400 activities!
P-TECH offers a six-year integrated high school and college curriculum for grades 9 through 14 that focuses on advanced manufacturing pathways and the acquisition of essential workplace skills. Students at P-TECH will graduate with a NYS Regents Diploma and a Technical Endorsement, a no-cost Associate in Applied Science degree from Onondaga Community College or Cayuga Community College, and the skills and knowledge required of well paying, high potential jobs in advanced manufacturing.

PEB's Career Spark Program utilizes donations from businesses in the CNY area to provide career exploration experiences to students in local school districts. PEB creates a platform for students to learn early on what opportunities are available for them, by providing a career spark through education, awareness, and engagement. PEB works closely with the regional school districts to identify students and business that could benefit from each other: students become engaged with tours, hands on experiences, and mentors in varied fields, allowing them to experience a sampling of the myriad of career opportunities available to them.

In June of 2019, PEB hosted its first-ever Job Signing Day! Traditionally students might have a signing day for a college at which they will play sports; however, PEB wanted to celebrate students that earned either their high school or college degree and are joining the workforce with companies here in CNY. The four companies that presented job offers to 9 students who accepted and are joining their ranks are: SRC, Inc., United Radio, TTM technologies/Anaren, and GA Braun. To learn more, click here
