Why Is He So Annoying?!
By: David Freund, Chief Leadership Officer
Have you ever noticed that some people are just plain annoying? You know that person, they just come into the room, and you want to run and hide. Perhaps you ask them a simple question and the answer takes so long that you forgot the question by the time the answer comes. Or maybe you know a person that is so happy and upbeat that you can’t stand to be around them. I once had a co-worker who was so happy in the morning that I would hide when I heard him come strolling in with the loudest, most annoying “GOOD Morning” each and every day.
What if I told you that you are the annoying person in someone’s life? Or what if I told you that you could get to the point where you are not only okay with how “annoying” people act but that you could actually begin to value the very things that currently annoy you. Does this sound too good to be true? Let me tell you, it is not.
All of us fall into a particular behavioral profile, and each category has strengths and weaknesses. The first step in making the best out of this situation is to understand who we are, and why we act the way we do. I mentioned that each behavioral profile has strengths and weaknesses. The problem is that when we overuse our strength, it becomes a weakness. The second step in making the best of this situation is to understand why the other person acts in a particular way. Too often we get frustrated by them and react poorly. Our emotions get the best of us, and we say or do things that make the situation even worse.
Over the years I have used the DiSC Behavioral Profile system, and it opened my eyes to an entirely new world of communication. Now I am able to react properly and communicate in a way that the other person will understand what I am trying to say.
Please join Marisa and me on The Next Page podcast as we discuss in detail the four behavioral profiles identified in the DiSC system.
