In The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, Law #15 is The Law of Victory. When I first read this Law, I felt that I grasped all the key takeaways. I understood that to live out the law; I would need to develop a team with unity of vision, diversity of skills, and be dedication to victory. I knew I would need to be committed to developing each person to their maximum potential. This all made sense to me, and I pursued that mission with purpose. What I missed within the law was that The Law of Victory requires that I get bigger on the inside. We need to become the type of person we want others to become.
The Law of Victory also compels us to improve ourselves. So often, we focus so much on growing our business and growing our team that we undermine the foundation by not growing ourselves. For some reason, we think the growth will just happen, and that isn’t true at all. You must be as intentional in your growth as you are in the growth of your team or organization. The key is always to get better so you can get bigger. Dan Cathy of Chick-fil-A loves to share that his team always wanted him to expand the business into additional markets. His reply to them was always the same, “If we get better, our customers will demand that we get bigger.” Dan knew that the secret to success was always to get better. According to a July 3, 2022 report, Chick-fil-A was ranked by the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) as America’s favorite restaurant for the eighth straight year. I guess Dan is correct. Get better, and your customers will demand that you get bigger. Compare that to the fast food chains that are closing restaurants.
For The Law of Victory to grant us continuous wins, we must first win on the inside. If we win on the inside, without question, the day will come when we win on the outside.
