We’ve put our words into action and are excited to announce that MACNY will be utilizing Registered Apprenticeship as a means of upskilling our own employees.

On Wednesday, June 12th, at our 2024 Workforce Development Awards event, the MACNY team demonstrated our commitment to apprenticeship as a proven training model by hosting our very own apprentice signing with four team members.

The MACNY team members beginning their apprenticeship, along with their mentors, are:

  • Murjan Abdi – Workforce Development Specialist apprentice (with Eileen Donovan, Senior Workforce Development Specialist serving as mentor)
  • Colleen Blagg – Project Manager apprentice (with Cindy Oehmigen, Energy & Corporate Services Consultant and Michael Frame, Executive Vice President serving as mentors)
  • Amanda Rice – Project Manager apprentice (with Mary Rowland, Chief Financial Officer serving as mentor)
  • Justyna Valencia – Marketing Coordinator apprentice (with Marisa Norcross, Chief Operations Officer serving as mentor)

MACNY President & CEO, Randy Wolken shares, “It’s our firm belief that apprenticeship programs are a critical part of filling the talent pipeline and addressing the skilled workforce challenges that exist today. As a proven model for success, it’s a natural fit for us to take our apprenticeship program in-house to upskill members of our MACNY team. I would like to extend my congratulations to Murjan, Colleen, Amanda, and Justyna on the commencing of their apprenticeship journey.”

New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon was in attendance at the event and apprentice signing. She shares, “Registered Apprenticeships continue to empower New Yorkers with the skills to thrive in new careers while also helping businesses gain a highly skilled workforce. I commend MACNY for continuing to raise the bar for Registered Apprenticeships in manufacturing. These new apprentices are MACNY employees, and I hope other employers follow their lead by becoming direct program sponsors today.”

In partnership with the New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) and members of  The Manufacturers Alliance of New York, MACNY supports the Manufacturers Intermediary Apprenticeship Program (MIAP).

MIAP supports companies in the recruitment, upskilling, and retention of new workers by acting as an intermediary to help them establish and manage their New York State Registered Apprenticeship program.

To date, MACNY oversees 110 active apprentices, 26 participating manufacturers in 13 unique trades. MIAP supports 25 unique trades, which includes not only manufacturing, but also other industries such as software developer and brewer/distiller trades.
