Manufacturing Careers Day 2018

For this year’s event, PEB and MACNY coordinated visits by students and teachers to three manufacturing facilities in CNY.  Lockheed Martin hosted 300+ students and teachers from 10 high schools and programs in the community.  A Business & Education Leaders Forum was held earlier in the morning at Lockheed Martin, featuring Congressman John Katko and a panel discussion about Identifying, Hiring and Retaining Qualified Workers in Advanced Manufacturing.

Students and teachers from high schools in the western part of Onondaga County visited both Gear Motions and WestRock/Solvay Mill.  Sixty students and teachers from Jordan-Elbridge, Marcellus and West Genesee high schools spent time touring both facilities, learning about lean Manufacturing, observing Engineers and hearing about the types of jobs employed at each company.

An additional site at CiTi BOCES in Mexico, NY hosted businesses from the Oswego County area who provided students with information about Manufacturing careers and included hands-on demos at their exhibits.
