Manufacturing Investments Will Change New York
Randy Wolken, President & CEO
Manufacturing investments will change New York State. Last week, President Biden once again traveled to Syracuse to announce the massive investment in our community. The Micron Technology project will transform the Central New York Community, New York, and beyond. At MACNY, a national leader in manufacturing and tech workforce development, we know that our region is filled with a skilled and diverse workforce. And this workforce will grow by the thousands over the next decade. We will be working with legacy manufacturers and new members of the manufacturing community to help fill the talent pipeline of our region and state.
This significant investment is coming to Central New York. Over the next two decades, Micron will invest up to $100 billion in building one of the nation’s largest semiconductor fabrication facility complexes, employing up to 9,000 people. The supply network and related industries will hire up to 41,000 workers. Ultimately, New York State will become the epicenter of semiconductor chip making, supporting associated sectors and communities throughout Upstate New York.
This project will create thousands of advanced manufacturing jobs and other positions. It has already elevated New York’s profile as a high-tech manufacturing hub and will strengthen our country’s economic and national security. Our communities are ideally positioned because of our infrastructure, cleaner energy, and water availability. Central and Upstate New York has a significant manufacturing history, one of the many reasons this investment is being made here.
It needs to be noted that without the hard work of our elected leaders – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Governor Kathy Hochul, and Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon – this investment would not have happened here in Central New York. Without their tireless and collective efforts, and the effort of their teams and many others throughout our region, this project would not have become a reality. As a part of the many people who helped make this investment and many other announcements since, the MACNY Team is excited, ready, and committed to collaborating with our members and community partners to be part of this historic endeavor. Over the decades ahead, this investment will be groundbreaking for the Central New York region we proudly call home.
We are committed to understanding what this means to our members over the coming decade. And our team will ensure you stay connected to all the developments. Until then, please celebrate with me this historic win for manufacturing and CNY!
