Ready, Set, Grow! – Part 1

With Christmas behind us and the New Year before us, I thought that I would start a series of posts and podcasts regarding planning for growth. You have heard me say more than once that change is inevitable, but growth is optional. I am convinced, now more than ever, that our growth will be critical to keeping us at the top of our game. When we were younger, we were likely very goal oriented. As we mature, we need to realize that goals are only mile markers in life, and if we want to continue moving, we need to become growth conscious. If we grow, we will always hit our goals.

In this series, I will share with you some of my key takeaways from a book that changed my life, John Maxwell’s The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth. So hold on, here we go.

If you want to grow, you need to be intentional about it—Law # 1 of the 15 Laws, The Law of Intentionality. The greatest gap in all the world is the gap between knowing and doing.  James Allen wrote in his book, As a Man Thinketh, “People are anxious to improve their circumstances but are unwilling to improve themselves; they, therefore, remain bound.”

What is holding you back from developing a plan for growth in 2019? Far too many say, “It’s not the right time.” There will never be a better time than right now. As a matter of fact, The Law of Diminishing Intent states, “The longer you wait to do something that you should do now, the greater the odds that you will never actually do it.” As Nike says, “Just Do It”. Commit to learning something new each day. Live each day to its fullest. Leo Buscaglia wrote, “A life lived for tomorrow will always be a day away from being realized.” By being very intentional about your growth, you will be living each day to your full potential and not waiting for the hope and wish of tomorrow.
